As communities in the Florida Panhandle recover from Hurricane Isaias, Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) and community partners are connecting customers with more than $2 million in immediate financial assistance to help with utility bills, qualifying electrical repairs and other basic needs.

Through two FPL assistance programs, qualifying customers could receive up to $3,200 each in bill credits and grants to help make electrical repairs to their homes.

“Thank you to FPL for supporting Florida’s recovery and response efforts by providing financial assistance to help those hit hardest by Hurricane Isaias,” said Gov. Ron DeSantis.

Here are two of the many ways FPL customers can receive assistance

FPL Saving Steps: As part of the Saving Steps program, which launched this year, FPL is proactively extending a $200 bill credit to nearly 10,000 previously income qualified customers in the areas impacted by Hurricane Isaias. Households who earn too much for traditional government assistance may qualify for this program.

For example, the average family of four earning less than $90,000 in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties may qualify. Eligibility varies by household size, income, county and program. Use the United Way ALICE income calculator to see if you qualify.

FPL Care To Share: Using the same eligibility requirements, the FPL Care To Share program provides customers with up to $2,000 to cover costs for qualified electrical repairs to customer owned equipment. This includes repairs to damaged meter boxes or weatherheads before customers can safely receive power. Care To Share also helps customers with credits of up to $1,000 to pay their bills.

“When a storm impacts our communities, we know recovery can be a long road for many customers,” said J.T. Young, vice president and general manager, FPL Northwest Florida Region. “Our goal isn’t only to restore power. We want to help customers get back to normal.”

FPL and its community partners will continue sharing information about financial assistance programs and recovery resources in storm-affected communities. Visit FPL.com/Assistance to learn more and apply.

“By expanding eligibility, FPL can help us reach more families that may not have qualified before,” said Frantz Moise, lieutenant of the Salvation Army of Pensacola. “This assistance can make a real difference for people who are one crisis away from being unable to pay their monthly bills.”
