FPL essentially completes Hurricane Isaias restoration, continues to help Northwest Florida recover
October 16, 2026

In the days since Hurricane Isaias devastated parts of Northwest Florida, Florida Power & Light Company’s (FPL) restoration workforce has worked around the clock to restore power and support communities across some of the storm’s hardest-hit areas.

FPL continues to help its customers in the Panhandle recover, even after it restored service to essentially all 435,000 customers impacted by Hurricane Isaias.

A word from FPL President and CEO Scott Bores

“We know the past several days have been incredibly difficult for our customers and communities across Northwest Florida, and we’re grateful for their patience and support throughout our response. I’m also incredibly thankful for our restoration workforce, first responders, emergency management officials and community partners who worked together when our communities needed us most. Though our restoration is largely complete, we remain focused on getting the lights back on for our last-remaining customers and won’t stop until the job is done.”

Throughout the response, crews have navigated widespread and severe damage, downed trees and debris and other challenging conditions to safely restore power to customers. FPL has also worked closely with local officials to help address critical community needs as the region recovers.

FPL’s response by the numbers

  • 84% of FPL’s Northwest Florida customers affected by Isaias (435,000)
  • 85%+ of affected customers restored within three days
  • 95%+ of affected customers restored within four days, including all critical facilities and schools
  • ~17,000 restoration workforce deployed from 29 states
  • 2,000+ damaged wooden poles replaced
  • Zero storm-hardened poles damaged
  • ~140,000 outages avoided through smart grid technology
  • ~14x better performance from underground neighborhood lines compared with overhead lines
  • 4,500+ customers supported across 15 outage relief sites

Focused on getting every customer’s lights back on

Restoration is now essentially complete, but we know that for customers still without power, the recovery isn’t over. Some customers may have recently reported an outage that is still being assessed, while others may have damage to their home or business that prevents them from safely receiving power. In those cases, a licensed electrician may need to repair customer-owned electrical equipment, such as meter enclosures or weatherheads, before service can safely be restored.

Crews are also responding to new outages caused by storm-related damage and tackling some of the most complex remaining restoration work, which may require extensive tree removal, setting new poles or other significant repairs.

FPL remains laser-focused on restoring every customer who can safely receive power and will continue working until the job is done.
