The latest: Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) is ready to respond to Hurricane Isaias with a restoration workforce of 14,000. We urge customers to prepare for outages and make safety their priority.

Why it matters: Isaias is expected to make landfall along the Florida Panhandle this evening as a strong hurricane. The storm will bring heavy rainfall, strong winds, significant storm surge and the potential for damaging tornadoes.

A word from FPL President and CEO Scott Bores: “Our restoration workforce of 14,000 men and women are pre-positioned across Florida’s Panhandle. We are ready to respond and restore power as soon as it’s safe to do so. We will not stop until every customer is restored. I urge our customers to take this storm seriously – finalize preparations for you and your families and stay safe.”

FPL is ready to respond:

  • A restoration workforce of approximately 14,000 is in place, including support from crews across 17 states.
  • 16 processing and staging sites are activated.
  • Customers are receiving updates through multiple channels, including automated calls and text messages.
  • Command centers active in both Pensacola and Juno Beach.

What customers should do after the storm:

  • Safety is FPL’s top priority for its crews and customers. Even when the wind subsides, conditions can be dangerous. Customers should continue to heed warnings from local emergency officials.
  • Stay far away from downed power lines, flooding and debris; assume that lines are energized.

Preparation and safety

  • Use extreme caution while driving. Power interruptions may cause traffic signals to stop working without warning. If you come to an intersection with a non-working traffic signal, Florida law requires that you treat it as a four-way stop.
  • If you are using a portable generator, follow the manufacturer’s recommendations for proper use. Never operate a generator inside your home or garage.
