The latest: Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) has restored power to more than 95% of its customers impacted by Hurricane Helene and expects to complete restoration to its remaining customers by Monday, Sept. 30, as it focuses crews on the hardest-hit areas in southwest and north Florida where storm damage has presented restoration challenges.

Why it matters: FPL is resolute in its commitment to getting the lights back on for customers who can safely receive it. FPL’s restoration workforce is going road-by-road and house-by-house as crews navigate widespread damage to restore power safely and as quickly as possible. FPL expects to have essentially restored power to all customers affected by Hurricane Helene by Monday, Sept. 30.

By the numbers as of 5 p.m.:

  • Nearly 650,000 customers restored.
  • Approximately 33,000 customers without power.
  • Approximately 185,000 outages avoided due to FPL’s smart grid technology.

A word from FPL President and CEO Armando Pimentel:
“We know how difficult it is to be without power. I want to reassure our customers that we are committed to restoring power, as quickly as possible, so they can get their lives back to normal.”

What FPL is doing:

  • FPL is dedicated to restoring service to every customer impacted by Hurricane Helene that can safely receive it.
  • As debris and vegetation are cleared from the hardest-hit areas in southwest and north Florida, crews are working to restore power safely and as quickly as possible.

What customers should do: Safety remains FPL’s top priority. Continue to be cautious as dangerous conditions could last for some time, even after the storm has passed. Take the time now to revisit storm preparation plans. Preparation and safety tips are available at FPL.com/Storm.
