JUNO BEACH, Fla. – Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) announced today it has reached a major milestone in its continuous commitment to deliver value and to provide reliable service to customers while keeping bills as low as possible: 120 solar energy centers are now operating across the state, representing the largest utility-scale solar portfolio in America.

Why it matters: FPL's investments in solar energy have helped save customers more than $1.3 billion to date by avoiding fuel costs.

With the addition of twelve new solar energy centers in 2026, including the recently completed FPL Sea Grape Solar Energy Center in St. Lucie County, FPL's solar portfolio now totals approximately 8,826 megawatts of generation capacity. That's enough energy to power more than 1.5 million homes.

"This milestone reflects years of smart investments on behalf of our customers," said Tim Oliver, vice president of FPL Development. "A diverse portfolio of generation resources, including solar energy, natural gas, nuclear power and battery storage technology, allows us to optimize our system and deliver reliable electricity while helping keep customer bills as low as possible."

What this means for Florida:

  • Solar energy centers are operating in 30 counties statewide.
  • Sites support jobs and, in 2025 alone, contributed nearly $40 million in local property taxes across Florida.
  • Homegrown energy helps diversify Florida's energy supply.
  • Solar works alongside other resources to meet growing customer demand.

“FPL's investment in solar has created a meaningful opportunity for communities like ours,” said Benjamin Balcer, director of Planning and Development Services for St. Lucie County. “Theseprojects attract investment, support local economies and help strengthen Florida's diverse energy infrastructure.”

Commitment to stewardship: FPL solar energy centers are designed to support environmental stewardship by providing habitats for native wildlife and pollinators while producing electricity for homes and businesses across Florida. The company is also adding agrivoltaics projects – the co-use of land for solar energy production and agricultural activities – at several of its sites demonstrating it continues to innovate and find ways for agriculture and solar to work together to maximize efficient land use.

“This approach allows the land to serve two purposes at once, supporting both solar energy production and cattle grazing,” said Florida rancher, Morgan Lott. “The cattle help manage vegetation, reducing mowing needs, and FPL has been a collaborative partner throughout the process."

By the numbers:

  • $1.3 billion+ in customer savings from solar investments
  • 8,826 MW of solar generation capacity
  • 1.5 million+ homes powered by reliable, low-cost solar energy
  • 120 solar energy centers operating across Florida
  • 12 solar energy centers added in 2026
  • 30 counties home to FPL solar energy centers
  • 53 solar sites with active agrivoltaics pilots
