The latest: Florida Power & Light Company is closely monitoring Tropical Depression Two as it moves through the Gulf. Current forecasts indicate the strongest winds are likely to remain offshore, but the system could bring periods of heavy rain and gusty conditions to portions of Northwest Florida. FPL is positioning crews, vehicles and equipment in areas that could be affected and stands ready to respond should outages occur.

Why it matters: Prolonged rainfall can saturate the ground, weaken trees and increase the possibility of localized power outages. Customers in Northwest Florida should use this time to review emergency plans and stay informed as conditions evolve.

A word from FPL president and CEO Scott Bores:
"We are taking steps now to position crews and equipment where they may be needed. We encourage customers to stay informed, make preparations and keep safety top of mind.”

What FPL is doing:

  • Prepositioning crews, vehicles and equipment
  • Monitoring the system around the clock
  • Coordinating closely with local emergency management officials
  • Preparing to respond safely and as quickly as possible if outages occur

What customers should do now:

  • Review family and business emergency plans
  • Ensure mobile devices, backup batteries and other essential equipment are fully charged
  • If someone in your home relies on electric-powered, life-sustaining medical equipment, finalize plans for backup power or relocation if needed
  • Stay informed through local forecasts and follow the guidance of state and local officials
