JUNO BEACH, Fla. - (June 31, 2022) – Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) today launched a must-have road trip tool for electric vehicle (EV) drivers. Designed to map out statewide road trips, including where to charge up using FPL’s EVolution public charging network, people who own or rent EVs can travel with confidence. The new, interactive website allows drivers to plan trips along FPL’s “EV Expressway,” selecting from pre-planned summer itineraries or creating their own customized adventure. FPL EVolution is poised to be the largest EV public charging network in the state, installing more than 1,000 charging ports at more than 200 locations along major highways and at popular destinations, with more to come.

“With prices at the pump continuing to rise, driving electric is more attractive than ever,” said Crystal Stiles, executive director of development, distributed technologies and mobility at FPL. “FPL’s EV Expressway makes it simple for drivers to map out their travel plans with peace of mind, so they can reach their destinations and always have convenient charging locations along the way.”

FPL’s EV Expressway features pre-planned itineraries with a variety of destinations and attractions EV enthusiasts can enjoy, whether traveling with their partner, friends or family. A sample itinerary from Naples to Sarasota includes:

Day one

  • Start the day at Naples Zoo at Caribbean Gardens, where you’ll park under an FPL SolarNow solar canopy, and enjoy a breezy lunch
  • Explore Venice’s historic downtown and recharge in Centennial Park
  • Check in to Legacy Hotel at IMG Academy and charge while you rest

Day two

Additional travel itineraries along FPL’s EV Expressway include St. Augustine to Sunny Isles, Boynton Beach to Melbourne and more.

With FPL’s EVolution fast charging network, drivers can power up approximately every 25 miles along major highways such as Florida’s Turnpike, I-95 and east-west corridors. Fast charging stations are located in convenient, safe spots near highway exits or along major thoroughfares, and close to amenities that drivers can enjoy while powering up. Chargers are compatible with most types of EVs, including Teslas. Level 2 chargers can be found at popular destinations around town such as museums and zoos.

FPL remains committed to a more sustainable future through the electrification of transportation in Florida – a state that is currently ranked second in the nation for electric vehicle ownership. The FPL EVolution public charging network, which launched in 2019, is designed to build out the charging infrastructure necessary to boost mass adoption so more Floridians can enjoy the benefits of driving electric.
