Energy-efficient donations brighten Port Orange nonprofit’s holiday season

One Florida-based nonprofit has a little something extra to be thankful for, just in time for Thanksgiving. With the help of Florida Power & Light Company and local contractors L & S Enterprises and Flair Air Conditioning and Heating, Catholic Church of the Epiphany in Port Orange received a free energy makeover which will help the nonprofit save almost $3,000 a year in utility costs.

“We are grateful for the church’s important role in the community,” said FPL external affairs manager Larry Volenec. “This is one of the ways we give back to the community – we find a nonprofit, and give them a makeover that is going to give them a long-term return on the investments we make here today at no charge to them.”

FPL and local contractors donated a new high-efficiency A/C with a 15 SEER rating, as well as digital programmable thermostats, new lighting, weather stripping and air filters, among other energy-efficient upgrades totaling approximately $9,000.

“We are so grateful,” said Father John Bosco Maison of Catholic Church of the Epiphany. “It’s good timing for this energy makeover to happen for us, just in time for Thanksgiving which is our busiest season for providing local families with meals and assistance.” He added, “It feels good to know that there are companies out there that care and take an active role helping those in need in our community.”

In addition to the energy-efficiency items, FPL donated $1,000 the church's Thanksgiving food baskets benefitting local families in need.
