FPL provides tips for safely identifying FPL workers
December 17, 2007

JUNO BEACH, Fla. -- Florida Power & Light Company reminds all customers in its service area that FPL workers are required to carry company-issued photo identification cards which must be on their person and available at all times if they are representing the company.  The same principle applies with approved contractors.

“If someone comes to your door and claims to be working on behalf of FPL be sure to ask for his or her photo identification,” said Marlene Santos, Vice President of Customer Service.  “We occasionally hear reports of people posing as utility workers to gain access to a residence or business and I encourage our customers to deny strangers access to their home.”

Some FPL personnel routinely perform many functions including meter reading, service restoration or disconnection, all activities performed outdoors of a customer’s house.  If FPL workers need access to the inside of the house, prior arrangements will be made.

Santos also said that if you are at all in doubt as to whether or not the workers are legitimate, immediately call the local police and after doing that, call the FPL customer service number listed at the bottom of your bill.

TIPS FOR SAFELY IDENTIFYING FPL WORKERS

  • All FPL employees carry photo ID badges with their photograph and name clearly visible; this includes meter readers.
  • If FPL workers need access to the interior of a home or business, prior arrangements will be made.
  • If in doubt about individuals who present themselves at your door as FPL employees requesting interior access to your home, contact local police and the FPL Customer Service number located at the bottom of a recent bill.
