FPL energizes Energy Encounter audiences with dazzling science demonstrations
January 10, 2007

HUTCHINSON ISLAND, Fla. – Florida Power & Light Company is bringing to Energy Encounter audiences its Electrifying ExperienceSM science demonstration on Family Sunday, January 21 and Monday, January 22. Scheduled times for the programs are 9:30 a.m., 11 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. at FPL’s Energy Encounter located at the St. Lucie nuclear power plant on South Hutchinson Island.

FPL’s popular Electrifying ExperienceSM featuring Robert Krampf better known as Mr. Electricity, has thrilled thousands of area elementary students in recent years. The show includes the hair-raising Van de Graaff static generator and the spark-emitting Tesla coil. Some of the topics covered include electrical history, static charges, volts, amps, electromagnetism, alternating current, direct current and high frequency electricity.  The program content is tied to state and national science academic standards for units on electricity and energy at many grade levels.

FPL and Krampf also offer the Electrifying ExperienceSM Free Experiment of the Week Club, which provides teachers, students and all those interested in science with simple, hands-on experiments on a weekly basis.  The experiments, available by submitting an e-mail request to Krampf at experiments@FPL.com, tackle subjects ranging from chemistry and biology to physics and earth science – they can be carried out at home or at school, and many can also be easily developed into excellent science fair projects.
