JUNO BEACH, Fla. -- Rod Macon, regional director of external affairs at Florida Power & Light Company (FPL), was named president-elect for SunFest 2007 – Florida’s largest music, art and waterfront festival attracting more than 300,000 people annually. The 25th edition of SunFest will take place in downtown West Palm Beach from May 3 to 6, 2007.
As president-elect, Macon is responsible for coordinating the efforts of all committee chairs. He is a member of the executive committee with a decade of direct involvement with SunFest. He ascends to the position of president on July 1, 2007, where he will be responsible for the overall operations of SunFest 2008.
SunFest is produced by SunFest of Palm Beach County, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization consisting of a 21-member board of directors; 25 committees; 3,000-plus volunteers; a full-time, year-round staff of 9; and approximately 100 corporate sponsors. The event raises more than $50,000 annually for local charitable causes.
Macon joined FPL in 1970 after earning a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from the University of Florida. He also received a master’s degree in business administration from Florida Atlantic University and doctorate of business administration from Nova University. He is involved with many community organizations, including serving on the boards of the Economic Council of Palm Beach County, United Way of Palm Beach County and Children’s Services Council of Palm Beach County. As regional director of external affairs, Macon is responsible for government affairs and community relations in Broward, Palm Beach, Martin, St. Lucie, Indian River and Okeechobee counties. He and his wife, Susie, live in Jupiter and have two sons.
