FPL to install solar panels at Miami Museum of Science & Planetarium, highlights Energy Efficiency Week

WHAT:

To help commemorate the state’s Energy Efficiency Week, Florida Power & Light Company will begin installing the first solar panels for a new ground-mounted, 2 kilowatt (kW) solar array exhibit at the Miami Museum of Science & Planetarium. The 2kW photovoltaic facility will be installed next to the museum’s wildlife exhibit. FPL is donating the solar panels to the museum as a demonstration and education project.

Monday, October 9, 2006 at 2 pm
WHERE:

Miami Museum of Science & Planetarium,
3280 S. Miami Ave (just north of Coconut Grove)
Media should go to the lobby of the Museum.

WHY:

FPL is building the 2 kW solar array through its Sunshine Energy® program.  FPL selected the museum because of its commitment to scientific discovery, particularly for children and their parents.

BACKGROUND ENERGY EFFICIENCY WEEK

Governor Jeb Bush designated October 5-11, 2006 as Energy Efficiency Week as part of a new, comprehensive energy bill that was enacted by the Florida Legislature in May 2006.  The goals of the Energy Act are to reduce Florida’s dependence on imported oil, spur economic growth and increase Florida’s investment in cleaner, alternative energy sources such as solar, hydrogen and biofuels.
