JUNO BEACH, Fla. -- Florida Power & Light Co. was ready to respond to a hurricane, but Tropical Storm Ernesto has so far not packed the punch that was originally anticipated. Restoration crews worked through the night to restore power to the few customers who experienced outages due to the storm and crews will continue to work today as necessary as long as winds are below 35 miles per hour.

 “Ernesto has been unpredictable from the beginning, and it’s possible that bands of bad weather and wind gusts may still pose a threat to our communities as it travels north,” said Geisha Williams, vice president of electrical distribution for FPL and the executive in charge of hurricane restoration.  “We continue to urge our customers to stay safe as Ernesto continues to move through Florida.”

• Don’t walk in standing water because you might not see a power line that could still be energized and dangerous. Safety should be everyone’s main goal.
• If you must go out, stay far away from downed power lines, flooding and debris.
• If you see an electrical line down and you think it presents a clear and imminent danger to you or others, call 911 or FPL at 1-800-4OUTAGE.
