Community members representing the west Boca area met for the first time in late August to discuss routing possibilities for a proposed new FPL transmission line. Florida Power & Light Company must build two new substations and a power line to connect the substations in order to continue to provide South Palm Beach County customers with affordable and reliable electric service.

Community advisory panel members were chosen from a number of individuals who expressed a willingness to represent their neighborhoods and homeowner associations, share the community's views with the FPL project team, and communicate information about the project with their neighbors. "We were very careful in selecting the members of the panel. They were drawn from a wide range of neighborhood and community groups and institutions," said Tony Newbold, External Affairs Manager for FPL.

"We hope that the panel members will take the information we shared with them, pass it along to others in their neighborhoods and let us know what they hear about the proposed project," Newbold said. "We expect this exchange of ideas will be helpful in the routing and construction of this new line."

Panel members discussed a number of issues and concerns that will be important in finding a preferred location for the line.

The group plans to hold at least two additional meetings to help FPL develop their plans. FPL expects to complete the route selection process by the end of February 2002.
