You are invited to send a photographer and/or reporter to cover the following scouting event at the St. Lucie Nuclear Plant on Saturday, Jan. 20.
What: More than 2,000 scouts are expected to attend the Energy
Encounter Scout Day on Saturday, Jan. 20, an annual Florida
Power & Light-sponsored event at the St. Lucie power plant on
Hutchinson Island.
FPL and more than 20 other community organizations will set up
outside booths for an event designed to provide an opportunity
for all levels of girl and boy scouts to earn a variety of
badges, many with environmental and energy-related themes.
Scouts and their families also will tour the Energy Encounter,
which contains 30 permanent displays, including interactive
computer games and an energy treasure hunt in which
participants earn a free prize. Scouts can also walk on the
one-mile Turtle Beach Nature Trail, tour the Marine Life Touch
Tank and the simulator (where reactor operators are trained and
tested) and even take a perimeter plant tour.
Who: Some of the Scout Day exhibitors include such diverse
organizations as the Mets baseball team, the Garden Club of
Stuart, the American Red Cross, St. Lucie Sheriff's Department
and the Save the Manatee Club.
When: Two sessions will be conducted for the Scouts -- one from
9 a.m. to 12 noon and the second from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Where: FPL Energy Encounter is located at FPL's St. Lucie nuclear
power plant on Hutchinson Island between Stuart and Ft. Pierce.
