Ice Storm Repairs Behind Them -- FPL Florida Crews Return Home From Arkansas
January 5, 2001
WHAT: After enduring the elements and being away from their families over
part of the holidays, approximately 130 Florida Power & Light Company
employees are headed home after helping Entergy restore electric service
to families in Arkansas who lost power as a result of recent ice storms.

WHEN: The FPL convoy of approximately 60 vehicles left Mobile, Alabama
early this morning traveling Interstate-10 to Lake City.

WHERE: The crews are expected to arrive in Lake City around 5 or 6 p.m.
today (1/5) and will spend the night at the Holiday Inn off
Interstate-75. On Saturday morning crews will depart in different
directions to return to their home bases in the 34 counties FPL serves in
  northeast, central and southern Florida.

WHY: FPL and other utilities in the southern U.S. have reciprocal
agreements to assist each other in times of natural disasters such as
hurricanes, ice storms, etc. Following a Christmas ice storm, FPL sent
about 100 linemen, 30 support personnel and 60 vehicles Dec. 27 to help
Entergy Arkansas. FPL crews worked primarily in the Hot Springs, Arkansas
area, specifically in the Mt. Ida and Pencil Bluff communities.

Entergy Arkansas is one of five Entergy Corp. utilities serving Arkansas,
Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas. Entergy Corp. and FPL Group, Inc.,
whose principal subsidiary is Florida Power & Light Company, have
announced plans to merge by the end of 2001.

Florida Power & Light Company is the principal subsidiary of FPL Group,
Inc. , one of the nation's largest providers of
electricity-related services with annual revenues of more than $6 billion.
The company serves 3.8 million customer accounts in Florida. FPL Energy,
LLC, FPL Group's U.S. and international energy-generating subsidiary, is a
leader in producing electricity from clean and renewable fuels.
