FPL proudly hosts Miami’s first energy-efficient Halloween pumpkin patch takeover
No tricks, just treats this Halloween as FPL donates $50,000 to Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade and hands out 250 pumpkins
Oct 17, 2013
Juno Beach, Fla. – Hundreds of Miami-Dade residents received free pumpkins on Oct. 16 when Florida Power & Light Company partnered with Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade in a pumpkin patch takeover and energy-efficient gift bag giveaway for Halloween. The first-come, first-served goodie bags included LED “treats” to remind residents to be energy-efficient and safe as they celebrate Halloween this year.
There was a big treat for Boys & Girls Clubs too – a $50,000 check to support the nonprofit agency and energy-efficient lighting for its pumpkin patch tent. FPL knows there nothing scarier than wasting electricity so FPL energy experts were on hand with tips to fight energy “phantoms.”
“We are very pleased to support Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade which plays such an important role in helping serve the youth in our community,” said Eric Silagy, president of FPL. “More than 10,000 children participate in the various programs offered by this wonderful organization and the programs they provide are both impressive and extensive. This is a natural partnership for FPL and a great opportunity to spread the word about the benefits of energy efficiency.”
“FPL’s pumpkin patch takeover is a great way to kick off the season and we will certainly put the $50,000 gift to good use, said Alex Rodriguez-Roig, president of Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade. “Thousands of children in this community have a safe and fun place to go after school and we appreciate the opportunity to partner with our neighbor, FPL.”
FPL also reminded customers to take its free Online Home Energy Survey at www.FPL.com/OHES for a personalized energy savings plan and tips that could help save them up to $250 a year in energy costs.
